GMC largely kept to the existing recipe for the new Sierra 1500. The largest update for the 2024 Sierra 1500 lineup being a small shakeup to the standard powerplants. The 305-horsepower turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six Duramax diesel engine is now the standard powerplant for the AT4X off-road pickup. Additionally, two fresh wheel choices, new paint options like "Downpour Metallic" and "Thunderstorm Gray," and a new moniker for the 310-horsepower turbocharged 2.7-liter inline-four engine have been introduced - it is now the "TurboMax" engine.

The GMC Sierra 1500 is like a slightly fancier cousin to the Chevy Silverado. Even though they look different on the outside, they're pretty similar underneath all that shiny metal and paint. The Sierra 1500 comes in a variety of trims with the additional choices of three cab sizes, three bed lengths, and four engine sizes. Note that not every options is available depending on the trim or cabin size chosen.
The four engine options available on the 2024 model are a base turbocharged four-cylinder, a strong Duramax diesel, a 5.3-liter V-8, and a bigger 6.2-liter V-8. The Duramax is now standard on the AT4X and the 2.7L will come with a 5yr/100k powertrain warranty.

Engines & Performance
The Sierra offers a versatile range of powerplants, with four different engines to choose from, along with two transmission options, and the availability of rear- or four-wheel drive. The base configuration includes a turbocharged 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine, generating 310 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque, coupled with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
For those seeking V-8 power, there are two options available: a 355-horsepower 5.3-liter V-8 and a robust 420-horsepower 6.2-liter V-8. Additionally, a torque-rich diesel six-cylinder engine delivers 460 pound-feet of torque. All three engine choices are paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. In performance tests, a fully-equipped Denali Ultimate model with the 6.2-liter V-8 engine achieved a 0 to 60 mph time of just 5.4 seconds.
The Sierra 1500 offers flexibility in suspension with the option for adaptive dampers and wheels as large as 22 inches. The rugged AT4 model features a 2.0-inch suspension lift and a suite of genuine off-road equipment. The AT4X shares several attributes with the Silverado ZR2, including advanced spool-valve dampers, electronic-locking front and rear differentials, additional skid plates, and aggressive off-road tires mounted on 18-inch black wheels. For those desiring an even more hardcore off-road experience, an AT4X AEV package is available, incorporating serious off-road accessories such as a steel front bumper with a winch, AEV 18-inch wheels, and robust steel rock sliders.
Towing, Payload, & Fuel Economy
When appropriately configured, the GMC half-ton pickup is capable of towing a maximum of 13,200 pounds and accommodating a payload of up to 2,240 pounds.
With the slew of available powertrain options, the fuel efficiency of the Sierra 1500 will vary. The optional diesel engine can boast ratings of up to 23 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway. The 6.2-liter V-8 engine is estimated to deliver up to 14 mpg in city driving and 17 mpg on the highway when paired with four-wheel drive. Adding 4WD will reduce the fuel economy a little, and opting for the 10-speed transmission will result in slightly improved fuel economy numbers.
Interior & Comfort
The interior of the Sierra's was designed with the driver front of mind. The controls are thoughtfully positioned for easy access, and the material quality generally elevates with each ascending trim level. Commencing with the SLE, a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel becomes a standard feature. Opting for the higher-tier trims unlocks an array of desirable enhancements, including a head-up display and a power-adjustable steering column. The pinnacle of opulence can be found in the Denali Ultimate, characterized by open-pore wood accents and an abundance of leather-clad surfaces. The front seats are equipped with 16-way power adjustments and massage functions for an enhanced level of comfort.
The Sierra offers plenty of interior storage with various compartments that can easily store small items. Looking to the bed of the truck, there is an available with a versatile tailgate that offers multiple configurations that facilitate easy loading/unloading, and an available CarbonPro composite bed.
Technology
The majority of Sierra 1500 models come equipped with a spacious 13.4-inch touchscreen that serves as the central hub for the truck's infotainment system. This expanded screen offers wireless compatibility for both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, providing seamless integration. Furthermore, it incorporates built-in Google software, granting users access to an app store, mapping services, and a voice-activated assistant. In addition, there is also an available 12.3-inch customizable driver information center, and an available 15-inch heads-up display. 14 available camera views, and the available Prograde Trailering System serve to facilitate an easier hauling experience.
The Super Cruise hands-free driver assistance technology will allow hands-free automatic lane changing, and other hands-free operations. This feature will be available on the Denali and Denali Ultimate Trims
Other available features encompass a premium 12-speaker Bose audio system, wireless phone charging capabilities, and extra power outlets for added convenience.
